This exhibition features more than 100 pieces from the massive art collections of the Ohara Museum and National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo: paintings, sculptures, photographs and more. The works depict "paradise", as seen by artists from different periods, countries, and techniques.
There will be gallery talks on September 1st and 8th from 18:00. (No reservation necessary) Talk events will be held on August 20th, September 16th and 30th from 14:00- by various speakers. Please check their website for further details. (Japanese only)

ジャンルや年代などが非常に多岐にわたる作品が、見事に「モダン･パラダイス」というテーマで展示されていました。以前茨城県立近代美術館にて開催された大原美術館コレクション展と、いくつか同じ作品が出品されていて、個人的に懐かしい気分に。それにしても、展示会場やコンセプトが違えば同じ作品でも表情を変えるものだということを実感。
また第一展示室の「光」を共通に展示された作品たちから、画中に確かに光の存在を感じて不思議でした。例えば菱田春草の作品からは、きっと光より「空気」を先に感じてしまうのではないでしょうか。そして展示室内の作品は、どれも同じ「光」を発しているわけではないのです。「光」とは、かくも多様に私たちへと届くのです。
細かいことですが、児島虎次郎の作品に始まる殆どの大原美術館の所蔵作品は展示ライトをまったく反射していません！確かにアクリル板などの類で保護されているはずなのに、その存在を感じさせません。鑑賞の妨げにならないように限りなく反射光などを抑えた特殊版がある、と博物館実習で伺いましたが、もしやこれがうわさの…さすが大原美術館！ここでも興奮していました。
