Toru Takemitsu
Toru Takemitsu, a composer who was artistic director of the Tokyo Opera City Cultural Properties Group (1995-1996) died before seeing the completion of the concert hall and the art gallery.
To commemorate 10 years since his death, and as the first project to link the art gallery and the concert hall, "Visions in Time" is being held.
Toru Takemitsu left thousands of works of music behind; he was more than a composer and a musician: he was a brilliant figure who moved freely between film, art, literature, thought and various other creative fields.
This exhibition is not simply a retrospective of a composer's life but a multilayered introduction to his various international activities, and the works he produced from the various realms he was interested in.
There is also a special space that has been set up within the exhibition where films for which Takemitsu provided the soundtrack are on show, as chosen from a questionnaire sent to people from within Japan and abroad, and there will also be a guest talk and a mini concert.
