Izuru Hanyu
Izuru Hanyu has been teaching at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music's school of oil painting (from which he graduated) for 34 years, while simultaneously showing his work at various major national group exhibitions and private shows. Moving through numerous artistic forms from his early paintings of people indoors, to captivating landscapes and still-lifes, his current works are based on the partitioning of space and colour. Hanyu has always focused on various facets of 'nature' in his paintings, especially shapes. The dynamic flow of the paintings compete face to face with nature, and change like the four seasons. This exhibition, commemorating his retirement from teaching at the University, features approximately 100 oil and water colour paintings, plus sketches that reveal the whole of Hanyu's artistic career.
