The exhibition will show a selection of ukiyoe and kawaraban accumulated by the library of Chiba University Faculty of Medicine concerning the subject of "health" of Edo era town folks. In the Edo period, the relative social stability allowed for medical science to improve dramatically and for medicines to become more wide spread. It is believed that pharmacies were first opened in the same period and for advertising purposes, numerous ukiyoe and kawaraban were produced around the theme of medecine. This exhibition will present these images alongside talks:
