"From Daimyo to Marquis" Exhibition
This event has ended.
At Sen-Oku Hakuko Kan
Media: Fashion
Inherited from the Daimyo down through the household of the Marquis, the ancestral articles of the Nabejima household have repeatedly met with disaster, and yet preserve a vast quantity of style fitting to the character of the household. The dyed and weaved articles defined the traditions and social statuses of the Edo period and amid the flow of Westernisation that came after the Meiji Restoration, ranked as the cutting edge clothing and accessories of the period. The designs are excellent; while many Noh costumes have been lost to fires, the level of preservation of those in existence today is very good, and this exhibition is a presentation of these elegant masterpieces.
The "Nabejima Household Ancestral Noh Costumes" exhibition is being held simultaneously at the National Noh Theatre.
