Art based universities have always played a significant role in supporting the art industry. The University Print Association, initially established for the research and education of printmaking, has been running for over 200 years. During that time, various universities within the association have built new graduate schools and specialized courses in order to expand the world of printing. The Machida City Museum of Graphic Arts has held the National University Print Exhibition since 1987, and this current exhibition marks its 31st year.

This is an important exhibition for scrutinizing the past year's accomplishments by each university. The students' works not only display the techniques learned through their university courses, but also challenge our very concept of art and society through sophisticated expressions. Past exhibitors are currently working as artists in various arenas. In this light, this exhibition carries a lot of potential and hope for the future of printmaking.

The exhibition will also feature various events that aim to bring the society, the museum and the university together, such as a "charity corner", lectures, "Viewer's Choice" awards.
