Artists

Markku Kosonen, Kari Virtanen et al.
This is an exhibition of furniture, textiles, sculptures and paintings by the designers and artists of Fiskars, a small village 80 kilometers west of Helsinki. Fiskars was on its way to becoming a ghost town after the internationally reknown knife company of the same name moved its factories to the United States in 1977, after more than a century of manufacturing knives and other tools in this land. However, the abundant nature, traditions and cultural heritage called to designers, artists, and artisans from all over the world. They held a group exhibition in 1994, and Fiskars succeeded in rebuilding their village by establishing an artists union in 1996.

There will be symposium to the theme of "Development through art - Why Fiskars suceeded in rebuilding" on August 25th, 16:00-18:30. Entrance is free.
