Artists

Shinro Ohtake
Shinro Ohtake has chosen some of pieces out of the body of his drawing work and installed them in the gallery space.

The artist made his debut against the backdrop of "New Painting" in the 1980s. Making painting, collage and sketchbooks, he combines very thick paint with masking tape so as to create a sense of pressure and presence, and it is this work that made him a star. Since then, he has used found objects in his work and created a series of sketches that he made in locations all over Japan, recalling the expressionistic modernism of work by Hockney and Picasso.

"Shitty Afternoon" is running at the same time as the "Zenkei" retrospective of unprecedented scale being held at the Tokyo Museum of Modern Art, presenting his most important series of drawing works. There will also be a publication made with the same name as the exhibition title.
