Kyoko Murase "The Moon, the Woods and the Snail under the Fern"

Artists

Kyoko Murase
In Kyoko Murase's paintings, viewer can catch sight of figures of young women who seem to be floating in water, or giving themselves up to the wind. These impressionistic images of long-haired women move freely across the surface of the paintings: it is as if they are merging with their environment of wind and water, as if the paint is bleeding into the water; these young women seem to be imbibing the water and the air with their whole bodies.
Murase achieves this feeling in her work by using confident brushstrokes: her choice of oil paint and watercolour works well to create the sense of transparency and floating.
