Art from Taisho-Early Showa Period

The University Art Museum - Tokyo University of the Arts
Finished
Relatively unknown artwork from the Taisho and early Showa period were selected from the museum collection for this exhibition. This period of time emphasized the importance of 'self' and 'independence'. It was also a time when socialism and labor movements faded away as popular mass culture flourished. The trends that art went through, in an atmosphere of both prosperity and uneasiness, will be examined.
The exhibition is split into four parts: Japanese paintings, Western paintings, crafts, and prints. Newly acquired pieces by Kiyoshi Hasegawa and others will also be displayed.
