Naoya Hatakeyama
Taka Ishii Gallery is holding a solo exhibition by Naoya Hatakeyama, entitled "Zeche Westfalen I/II Ahlen", marking the artist's 3rd exhibition with the gallery. This exhibition consists of a series of photographic works shot in Ahlen, an ex-coal mining town in the southeastof Munster, Germany, between October 2003 and February 2004.
For Hatakeyama, taking a photograph of a building that is scheduled to be torn down is like taking the portrait of a person who will die soon. Just as a portrait of a deceased person is needed for people to reminisce about that person, an architectural photograph is needed to reminisce about a building which no longer exists.
