This exhibition presents approximately 70 oil paintings from the collection of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Brussels. Their collections consists of approximately 20,000 works, including paintings, drawings and sculptures which span a period as broad as the early Flemish period in the 15th century to the 20th century.
On show will be works by Flemish masters such as Bruegel, Rubens, van Dyck, and Jordaens, together with the Symbolists Knopf and Ensor, and paintings by the 20th century Surrealists Magritte and Delvaux. In addition, Pieter Bruegel the Elder's "The Fall of Icarus" - one of the 40 oil paintings known to remain by this master - will be on display in Japan for the first time.
