Masashi Otomo
Taken from a series of portraits, landscapes and self-portraits of the artist's family in Hokkaido, this exhibition features portraits of the artist's elder sister. Although this series features his family, he does not take them because they are related. Rather, the artist took photos of them merely because he tends to photograph people and things that are close to him. Here, he takes photos of his sick, troubled sister as a way of facing up to her reality, yet the works seem to emphasize the unbridgeable gap between two human beings. She is close and yet so far away.
