Collection of the Fondation Cartier pour l'Art Contemporain

Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo
Finished
The Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain presents its collection for the very first time in a major exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (MOT). This exhibition brings together major works by over 30 internationally renowned artists from around the world.
The collection provides a surprising perspective on contemporary art, encompassing painting, sculpture, film and video, installation art and design. Three major leitmotivs run through the exhibition -the fantastical, the astounding and the intimate- in a presentation which invites the visitor to explore the unexpected beauty of the contemporary.
Since its creation in 1984, the Fondation Cartier has demonstrated a commitment to contemporary artists throughout their careers by special commissions on the production of new works. Throughout its history, the Fondation Cartier has been instrumental in the discovery of Japanese artists in France and in Europe. This is one of the major reasons why the Fondation Cartier has chosen the city of Tokyo for the unveiling of the most spectacular works of its collection.
Reaching out to the general public as well as art world specialists, this exhibition confirms Cartier’s commitment to contemporary art, demonstrating its role as a major patron of the arts and as an important interlocutor between artists and the public.
