Joshibi's first exhibition of 2006 is showing short-sleeved Kimono made in recent years. The short-sleeve design is the basis for the kimono today, a design that was perfected from the end of the Muromachi period to the Momoyama period. Following that, various textile dyeing techniques were used during the Edo period and within the limitations of the short-sleeve design, the world of design developed in various remarkable ways.
Taken from the collection of textile works entrusted to the Joshibi University of Art and Design, this exhibition is showing 41 short-sleeved kimono and 6 pieces of material in 7 themes. Focussing on recent short-sleeve designs and techniques of expression, it looks at the basic pattern of flowers, embroidery, dyeing techniques, changes in design and the aesthetic awareness people have of them.

7つのテーマの平台のコーナーごとに、国内では珍しい露出展示を中心にしたレイアウトとなっています。ガラスを通さない分、より身じかにリアルな存在感を伴って、素材感や布の質感を鑑賞していただくことができます。大学美術館ならではの、教育効果重視の展示方法を試みています。

　女子美アートミュージアムで桃山から江戸期の着物である小袖を特集した展覧会を開催中です。・・・
　小袖のデザインの歴史には目を見張るものがあります。本展のKIMONOの表記は、それらの持つ価値が「着物」の表意を超え、今まさに国際的な芸術的評価を持つものであるとの認識を表しています。

展覧会、拝見いたしました。
貴重な小袖をこんなに間近で見られる機会はなかなかないと思います。意匠を拡大した展示も珍しく、見ごたえのあるものでした。
今回は閉館間際に偶然立ち寄ったのですが、今度はゆっくり見たいと思います。
