This event has ended.

Masumi Hara started performing as a live musician in 1976, made his record debut in 1972 and continues to give concerts. Since the 1980s he has also been illustrating for record jackets, magazines, book covers, as well as being active in CM narrations and as a voice actor. In recent years he has been especially popular for his cover illustrations for novelist Banana Yoshimoto's books.

This exhibition focuses on the artist's paintings and reattempts to unfold the secrets to their attraction. His paintings and illustrations have simplistic forms and use rich yet clear colors. When he expresses simple, humorous affection or cynical criticism towards his objects, his contrasting world of light and dark that is contemplative, fantastical and full of "a cheerful loneliness" emerges. The fact that many passionate fans of his music are also followers of his visual art give witness to the pop surrealistic charm of both his musical and visual worlds. Works on display will cover the entire trajectory of the artist's career, and his work as a musician, narrator and voice actor will also be featured.
