“Tablewares from Japonisme" Exhibition

Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art
Finished
This exhibition features Japonisme tablewares that were actually used in daily life. The collection reveals a beauty and high quality that cannot be seen anywhere else. Through this body of work, viewers can understand how Japanese culture influenced the Western decorative arts of the late 19th century. Western artists learned not only its techniques and patterns, but the Japanese original perspective on nature, and they applied it to their cultural practice. The rise of aestheticism in the late 19th century eventually led to the beginning of modern design in the 20th century.
