Artists

Ruriko Murayama
This exhibition features Ruriko Murayama's recent works, a lacquer series which was critically acclaimed at her exhibition last year. They are assemblages of various materials shaped to look like her arms, including the veins. Murayama says, "they are a consideration of the inner and outer beauty of human beings." The surface of these works gives a sense of moist skin and even blood running beneath it.

This exhibition also includes a new work titled "The Virgin", which is from her "Beautiful Cluster" series. This work, which is somewhere in between her dress works and her other assemblages, marks where her work will go from here. Made with with painstaking attention to detail, her work always hints at human bodies; this is not a predetermined process but something that she improvises.

"Coffee Stain" a work made in collaboration with Satoru Aoyama, will be also on display. Coffee stains left on a white piece of cloth have been traced and replaced by the embroidery with threads and peals, transcending everyday imagery and setting up a completely new value system.
