2007 Bologne Italy International Picture Book Original Drawings Exhibition
This event has ended.
The Bologne Exhibition is known as the largest picture book original drawing competition in the world. This year is its 41st year and 2,653 illustrators from 58 countries submitted their works. There were 17 Japanese artists among the 85 winners from 23 countries. All winning entries will be on display at Itabashi Art Museum again this year. The draw of the Bologne exhibition is in its diversity, of entrants and judges. Works by famous authors with numerous publications are judged alongside authors' first works, giving every artist a fair chance to be seen and to win. This year Japanese designer and author Katsumi Komagata is a member of the international panel of judges.
The special exhibition this year features works by German artist Wolf Erlbruch who won the "Nobel Prize of picture books", the International Andersen Award last year. His technique involves old newspaper and photograph collages through which Dadaist and Surrealist influences can be seen. He is also known for dealing straightforwardly with issues that are difficult to handle in children's books. 21 original drawings will be on display.
