"Three Chapters with Khadim Ali" Talk Event
This event has ended.
At A.I.T. Room
Media: Art Talk
Khadim Ali is an artist in residence at AIT from April to July 2007. Born in 1978 in Quetta City in Pakistan, Khadim lives and works in Pakistan. His family heritage is Afghan, and his work often references this cultural background. In particular, Khadim’s recent works have tried to visualize the turmoil and traumas suffered by the Afghan people under Taleban rule and a constant state of war, as well as their dreams and stories. He has visited the town of Bamiyan several times to hold workshops there with local children. Bamiyan was the site of the famous great Buddhas constructed in the fifth or sixth century, which were destroyed by the Taleban in 2001. Khadim studied in Iran, where he mastered the Persian language, and won a scholarship to the prestigious National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan where he studied miniature painting. Miniature painting is an ancient and traditional art form particular to South and Central Asia which has recently been revived by a younger generation of artists such as Imran Qureshi and Shahzia Sikander, both of who now show their works at large international exhibitions. Khadim has shown his works both at The Fukuoka Museum of Art and The Fifth Asia Pacific Triennale, Brisbane in 2006. In 2007, he will hold a one person exhibition in London.
