Hiroshige Utagawa
"One Hundred Famous Views of Edo" is one of Hiroshige Utagawa's (1797-1858) representative works from his later years. The prints depict scenes from the big city Edo at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate in various seasons, weather, and times of day. At the time, Hiroshige probably meant to complete one hundred scenes and views, but prints continued to be issued to popular demand, and the total series reached completion at 120 prints including the Table of Contents. The continuous works employ a technique that greatly magnifies close objects, and the bold composition takes us by surprise.

The One Hundred Famous Views of Edo will be displayed in two sessions, running from April 28th-May 27th and May 30th-July 1st.
