"Video Art from London" Exhibition

Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo
Finished
As part of Tokyo Wonder Site's "Emerging Artist Support Program 2006", a young curator has brought together London-based artists of the same generation who express a wide variety of perspectives in their video work.

Coming from such a multicultural city as London, these artists come from many different cultural backgrounds, and reflecting this multinational reality, the five artists in this exhibition are not originally from England. For them, multiculturalism and diversity is an everyday reality and London works as a place where they can pursue a sense of universality in their artwork. The themes that one can see emerging in their work are, among others, the relationship of body and movement, the humour that lurks in the everyday, unexpected phenomena that are at odd with our points of view, the rejection of cultural stereotypes and complicated thoughts towards the beauty of nature. Regardless of their country of origin, these city-dwelling artists are united by the same preoccupations. The organizers of this exhibition hope that visitors will be able to see new points of view that transcend the geographical separation of England and Japan, which remain distinctive places in spite of globalization.
