Hachioji Yume Art Museum

Artists

Hiroshi Masumura
This is an exhibition of about 200 original drawings and illustrations by this manga artist, who has a wide fan base for his characteristic cat characters and unique fantasy world.

This artist made his debut in 1973 with the award-winning manga "Night Choked with Fog" in weekly 'Shonen Jump', released another manga "Yonezaado" in 1975 and "Atagoul" in the following year through which he gradually started illustrating his unique world of fantasy as manga. Although he did not release many works of manga after that, he continues to enjoy wide popularity and readership and his characters have been used by large corporations for their commercials as well. The steady, measured pace at which he continued to create the unique world of Atagoul was the foundation for a wide fan base that continues to grow steadily. Another characteristic of his work is the influence of the revered Kenji Miyazawa.

This exhibition is the first attempt to unlock the mysteries behind the attraction to this artist's works, as well as to rediscover the world of Kenji Miyazawa through this artist's literary manga.
