"Transparent Anger" Exhibition
This event has ended.
At Taro Okamoto Memorial museum
Media: Painting
Artist Taro Okamoto was known for his delightful and humorous character, but he also expressed his "anger" toward greedy human behaviors that cause injustice in society. Many of his paintings, including his famous works such as "Korosuna" (do not kill) and "Ashita No Shinwa" (tomorrow's mythology), and his writings reveal this aggressive feeling.
However, the anger he expressed in his paintings does not necessarily depict literal fierceness. In "Ashita No Shinwa," he depicted human figures proudly overcoming a tragedy with loud laughter. This "anger" Okamoto dealt with in his work is something beyond hatred or personal grudge.
"Transparent anger" is a term refers to Okamoto's specific anger.
It is often said that people hide their feelings nowadays. Okamoto's work suggests people expressing their pure and honest feelings. This exhibition hopes that viewers will pause and think.
Also participating in this exhibition is the winner of the "Toshiko Okamoto Prize" from the 10th Taro Okamoto Contemporary Art Awards. Shunsaku Hishikari's work, in which he "collaborated" with Taro Okamoto, is on view.
