The Shell Art Award was first held in 1956 and aims to discover young artists (40 and below) with exceptional talent in the field of modern painting. This year marked 1616 entries, the highest number of submissions to date, by 1076 artists. 43 works were selected for awards including the grand prize, reviewer's award and encouragement award, many of which will be presented at this exhibition. The exhibition will travel to Kyoto after the Tokyo.
