Artists

Jan Svankmajer, Eva Svankmajerova
Known for his surreal short animations and feature stop-motion films, such as "Lunacy" (2005) and "Alice" (1988), Czech artist Jan Svankmajer presents his drawings, collages, and sculptures. He has often collaborated on artworks with his life partner Eva Svankmajerova, who also handled the costume and art direction in his major films. They explore surreal ideas in wide range of media, not just film making.

This exhibition introduces about 200 paintings and sculptures, based on his film "Alice" which was took its inspiration from Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". Many works by Eva Svankmajerova, who passed away in 2005, are also on display. Svankmajer himself made a selection of works for this exhibition.
