Monsters and beasts are not real. Toru Narita strived to design and express the forms of these "kaiju" in a uniquely Japanese way that was different from the western image of a "monster." He entered Musashino Art School in the hopes of becoming an artist, but became interested in sculpture while at school, and participated widely in sculpture exhibitions after graduation. Starting in 1965 he worked on the artistic special effects for "Ultra Q" where he started designing kaiju. He continued to create beautiful, one-of-a-kind kaiju afterwards in shows such as "Ultraman" and "Ultra Seven." The forms that characterize his kaiju are abstract representations of a combination of many complex elements derived from nature, and have influenced kaiju design greatly.

In this exhibition, works by this artist Toru Narita as well as those by Ryousaku Takayama who transferred Narita's illustrations into figures, and other kaiju designers that are leaders in this field will be all on display.
