Masuo Ikeda, who had an international reputation as a printmaker, demonstrated his great talent in a wide range of fields such as painting, sculpture, ceramic, novel, essay, scenario and film direction. By the time of his death at the age of 63 in 1997, he had created more than 1,000 pieces of print work and more than 3,000 pieces of ceramic work. This exhibition displays masterpieces of the genius from his early to later years, and explores the meanings of retrogression from Western to Japanese aesthetic through his ceramic works in which he involved himself in his later years. As a related event, violinist Yoko Sato, his beloved partner, will play a special concert in Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall at 14:00, Friday, February 8th, celebrating the 50th anniversary of her debut.
