"Looking for Stars - Surprising Connections between Art and the Cosmos" Exhibition

Located near the Chiba City Museum of Art, the Chiba City Museum of Science opened inside the building complex "Qiball" on October 20th, 2007. A sphere with a 26 meter diameter is afloat in the building, inside which a planetarium with state-of-the-art equipment was built. In commemoration of the opening of the planetarium, the art museum presents "Looking for Stars - Surprising Connection between Art and the Cosmos."
Owing to science TV shows and Science Fiction movies, the universe is something familiar to us nowadays. Many artists have created works depicting stars and the cosmos in various forms and styles. This exhibition presents works referring to "stars and the cosmos" from the museum's contemporary art collections.
Tatsuo Miyajima's "Chi no Ten" (Sky on the Ground) is an installation incorporating LED lights installed on the gallery floor. Hitoshi Nomura's "Moon Score" is an image of musical notes composed of images of the moon. Works by Thomas Ruff and Yayoi Kusama are also on display, revealing the unique relationship between art and the cosmos.
