Czech animation is highly acclaimed around the world. Here, even picture books are influenced by animation. This exhibition features approximately 200 original pictures and production materials from a formerly government-managed animation studio, and public museums in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Also shown are Czech picture books from the beginning of the 20th century to today through pictures and moving images. The exhibition asks us to reconsider the folk tales which inspire such stories, as well as avant-garde art movements and social satire in Eastern Europe, while also seeking the possibilities of art beyond the boundaries of 'picture books' and 'animation'. Some of the animation will be shown in Japan for the first time.
