Naoko Fukui "A Room with a Painting"

LIXIL Gallery 1 & 2

Artists

Naoko Fukui
This is an installation encompassing the entire gallery space. A nested room has been created in the space, and every element from the plants to the furniture is a painting created by this artist. She uses oil paint and beads on canvas to paint mint green walls, terracotta bricks, dark green house plants and pale pink windows in her flat style without shadow. The painting within the "Room with a Painting" fantastically depicts Europe's cathedrals and wheat fields. The room gives the viewer an illusion of stepping into a fully decorated doll house. Stepping into the artist's "room" to view flat works otherwise viewed straight on, creates an illusion of being surrounded by another dimension. The "room" can also be considered as a "stage" on which to open a treasure box on a special occasion.
