Artists

Kyoko Hirano
This is the first retrospective exhibition of Kyoko Hirano (1930-) being held at a public museum. Hirano was born in Isehara, Kanagawa, and studied painting under Sakujiro Okubo, Isamu Nagaya, and Setsuko Migishi. She revealed her talent for depicting representational landscapes in the early times of her career, and moved onto more abstract works as she became inspired by Buddhism. She continued to exhibit at major group shows and conducted research in India and Korea as a part of her practice.

This exhibition presents about 40 paintings, prints, and sculptures, which include works dating back to 1951 as well as her most recent pieces, giving an overview of her creative career.
