Yokohama Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Rene Magritte, Max Ernst, Andre Masson, Yves Tanguy et al.
Surrealism is a cultural movement that was first started in French literature around the 1920s. The movement soon spread among art and idealogy and continues to influence how we see and think about things today. This exhibition aims to unravel what Surrealism has brought into the art world, and how it relates to us. It could be said that the most influential idea that was introduced by Surrealism was "the power of the image." Avoiding direct depiction of original sources, Surrealism is an attempt at the precise portrayal of the images in one's mind. These newly discovered images lead us somewhere unexpected, linking one idea to another in unforeseen ways. This exhibition introduces artists who experimented with the power of such images.
