Folding Screen Paintings from the Museum Collection

Hiratsuka Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Takashi Asada, Sanko Inoue, Akiteru Okamoto, Kojin Kudo et al.
The folding screen has been a useful tool for partitioning space, as it is easy to move and to store; depending on where you put it, it can have different effects on a space. The art of painting on folding screens began in the Han Period in China, before being adopted in Japan during the Nara Period, developing into an integral feature of palatial and monastic life during the Heian Period.

This exhibition presents approximately 15 screens.
