This year marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of Marc Chagall, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Chagall was born into a Jewish family in Russia, and lived and worked in France, the United States, and Mexico. When he was working in Paris, he developed a rich sense of color, and his paintings express the love and hopes of the people of the world through a poetic use of color.
In 1922, Chagall began producing lithographs, and more than 2000 of these works survive today. He mainly worked with copper plate engraving, but after WWII, he worked more with lithographs, and produced many colorful works in the medium. This exhibition includes 222 of Chagall's best known lithographs and wood-block prints, including his masterpiece "Daphnis et Chloé" and his "Boehme," "Circus," "Bible," and "Arabian Nights" series of prints. The exhibition also includes 20 of Chagall's colorful and dream-like oil paintings, and 100 photographs of Chagall at work by the photographer Izis.
