Hiroshige Utagawa
"100 Famous Views of Edo" (1856-1858) is Hiroshige Utagawa's well known series of print masterpieces, consisting of a total 120 pieces including 118 pieces by Hiroshige Utagawa, and one by Hiroshige II. This series is significant for the dynamic use of foreground and background compositions, a technique that originates in Western art. Impressionist painters such as Monet, Van Gogh, and Gauguin had all seen Hiroshige's work and it had a great influence on late 19th century European art.
