Shinta Cho "Nanoyo"
This event has ended.
At Sogo Museum of Art
Media: Illustration
A nonsensical world spreading out from the palm of your hand - this is the world created by the illustrator and manga artist Shinta Cho (1927-2005).
This artist's first works were four-frame manga in the 1950s. He started creating picture books in 1958 and authored over 400 in his lifetime.
Among his numerous award-winning works are "Chatty Fried Egg" (1959) that won the 5th Bungei Shunju Manga Award, "It's Spring Mrs. Owl" (1977) that won the 8th Kodansha Cultural Awards Picture Book Award, and "Rubber Head Pontaro" (1998) that won the 4th Nippon Ehon Shou (Japan Picture Book Award). This artist has a wide fan base since children seem to be the best at understanding this artist's nonsensical illustrated books, but the manga are more for adults.
This exhibition will feature picture books, manga, illustrations and essays. About 200 original drawings including representative works and unpublicized works will also be on display.
