This event has ended.

Yomar Augusto was born in Brazil in 1977, received a Bachelor in Graphic Design from Univercidade in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2000 and Master of Design degree in Type Design from the Type & Media Postgraduate course at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (The Royal Academy of Art) in The Hague, The Netherlands in 2005. He is currently working in Holland. 25 new works of drawing and painting, including 4 large canvas works, will be exhibited at Nanzuka Underground.

In his work, Yomar utilizes a wide range of representational media, such as stencil, acrylic, digital illustration, photography, collage and found objects, which connote his latent awareness of the very important issue of the balance between the natural and urban environment. He uses calligraphy to express his belief that a prosperous society can be achieved through the fusion of nature and human beings. The rich flow of his calligraphy creates fantastical trees, human figures or animals and they themselves represent the "fusion" of the artificial and the natural.

As Yomar comments himself: "The fusion of calligraphy, trees, streets, people, artificial objects and nature is always woven into my artworks. The calligraphy in my artworks represents my personal matters, diary writings about my day, my work, aims and wishes for the future."

This will be Yomar Augusto's first visit to Japan. There will be an opening reception party held for the artist on June 29th (Fri).
