"Banana Textiles for the Earth" Exhibition

Living Design Center Ozone
Finished
Tama Art University started the Banana Textile Project in 2000 with the goal of creating a system to produce recycled woven textiles using banana stems that are discarded in the tropical regions. This program was chosen as a MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Gendai (modern) Good Practice program in 2006 for combining recycled waste and design to contribute to environmental protection. This is the second year of the three-year program, and a progress report and forum will take place. Works on display include interior fabrics, mats, screens, lighting, apparel, hats and bags made of banana fiber and designed by students.
