Video Screening Tokyo Vol. 5 "After the News"

Bank Art 1929 Yokohama
Finished
Video Art Screening Tokyo Vol. 5 "After the News" introduces 22 works by 20 artists from 13 countries. Video art is a relatively new genre that emerged in the 1960s when portable video equipment was released. As time goes by, the form of video art also changes.

"After the News" is the ultimate version of three programs organized and screened between 2003 to 2005; "Your Memorabilia", "Paradise Views", and "Dreaming Bodies". Since 9/11, the world seems to be globalizing even more dramatically than before. Here, concepts of memory, space, and body are readdressed, and approached from wide angle.

Considering the complexity and plurality of value systems and viewpoints, culturally diverse artists were selected for the show to provide more than one perspective or one answer for each theme. To understand different cultures and ethics, ability to compare and reflect upon past experiences is necessary. This show aims to broaden cultural understandings and also to share its humor and critical messages.
