"The World of Planes" Exhibition

Japanese traditional architecture often avoids applying paint as a surface treatment; there has always been a preference for the fine surface of beautifully planed wood. The plane is considered the "king of carpentry tools" - the item that proves how skilled one is. Carpenters draw special attention to preparation and maintenance when it comes to planing. This exhibition introduces the history, techniques and functions of the plane.
