Artists

Mana Konishi
In her paintings, Mana Konishi depicts ambiguous states between reality and dreams in which human figures face a natural landscape. She first photographs places that she finds surreal, and referring to these images, constructs her paintings. By presenting this contrast of humanity and nature, she reveals a spiritual world. The places that she photographs become "no where in particular" as she transfers them into her painting.

Konishi says, "I began painting images that remained in my memory when I happened to discover that one photograph I took was so much like a landscape that I had subconsciously imagined before." She visualizes her psychological landscapes by working with photographs. Ultimately, it is a dynamic world that belongs to neither reality nor illusion. She unravels an unworldly realm, inspiring various feelings in the viewer.

Konishi's works are also being shown at Daiichi Seimei Minami Gallery, in Hibiya, from November 2nd through the 30th.
