Shojiro Kosugi
Shijiro Kosugi was born in Takinokawa (currently Tabata, Kita Ward), Tokyo in 1944, the son of art historian Kazuo Kosugi and a grandson of Bouan Kosugi. Influenced by his uncle Jiro Kosugi, Shojiro started out as a industrial designer but later switched to pursue painting. In 1968, introduced by his acquaintance, he joined the studio of Kazumasa Nakagawa. He left to Paris in 1970 to attend the Academy Grand Chaumier, and exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in 1971. In 1974, he held his first solo exhibition in Japan, and since then, he has been working and exhibiting both in Japan and France. His work is often characterized by motifs of landscapes, flowers, and toys depicted in warm colors. In recent years, he has been working on more decorative paintings using natural pigments, and humorous objects as well.

This exhibition presents around 60 works including his award winning paintings, early works, and the most recent works to give an overview on his entire career as an artist.
