The Sustainable Art Project is a cooperative project organized by Taito Ward and its citizens under the guidance of Environmental Process Art and Tokyo Geijutsu University. The project has been held every year since 2004, and aims to encourage the continuous cultural development of the region by supporting young artists and providing opportunities for residents to have contact with art.

This year's title "Koto-no-ba (the place of things)" incorporates the project themes of "elements inherent to places, sustainability, renovation and rediscovery of social resources." The venues being used for this project are public spaces and also those that have at one point lost their original purpose or role. Using art to give new value to these places, the project aims to give birth to new "koto (things)" and start the transformation process into a circulating society. 40 artists' works will be on display at various venues in and around Ueno.

*Venues include former Sakamoto Elementary School, Gallery Ku, Ueno Station Central Exit, House of late Denchu Hiragushi, former Iwasaki residence and Sumida Park Riverside Gallery and will be linked with a bus.
