Artists

Minami Kodama
This artist's works take the Japanese hyoutan gourd as the motif. Hyoutan have been loved by everyone as a decorative motif since ancient times, and has been used as a symbol for the Imperial family for its auspicious meanings as well as a sake cups for the masses. This artist's works are characterized by vibrant deep colors - white, black, green, yellow, salmon pink. The combination of these color glazes and the hyoutan shape could easily evoke a classical image, but this artist has infused the roundness of a woman's figure in her works giving rise to an eroticism. The artist studied ceramics in art university, but has been mesmerized by glazes over shapes and designs and continues to research glazes even after she has graduated. 15 works will be on display.
