Artists

Tetsuya Ishida
This artist passed away suddenly in 2005 at the young age of 31. His works assault the viewer with feelings of anxiety and loneliness that many contemporary Japanese have deep in their hearts. They are expressions of scenes that can be found in our society today as seen through the eyes of one individual.

Last year Ishii's works were introduced on "NHK Shin Nichiyo Bijutsukan" program despite his being fairly unknown. Immediately after, the collection of his posthumous works shot to the top of amazon'com's bestseller list. Three solo retrospective exhibitions have been held in his native Shizuoka Prefecture to the acclaim of an audience spanning a wide range of ages. This is his first exhibition held in Tokyo since becoming the center of attention. 15 works created between 1997 to 2004 are on display from the museum collection.
