This lecture series "Architecture and Museum" explores the meaning and social function of museum architecture from modernism to today.

The content of a museum's collection and the work of architecture itself are equally important. Concepts and ideas of the museum are often communicated through the design. Some museums apply Greco-Roman architecture to refer to their collection, and others aim at proposing the idea of a "museum for the public" by integrating openness and clarity to the design.

Other aspects of museum architecture become clear when looking into the function of a museum as a facility to preserve and protect artwork; such an analysis allows us to understand the relationships between art and society and how art is treated. Furthermore, this lecture leads to a critical discussion of the role of the museum in its current situation, where art is often shown outside museum settings.

"Architecture and Museum" is conducted by curator Yasufumi Nakamori, a specialist in the relationship of contemporary art and architecture.
