Totan gallery is the perfect place for this artist. The home-like atmosphere draws you in as soon as you enter the gate of this well hidden treasure. It is a place where the artists and vistor connect, visions are birthed, and stress disipates in the filtered sunlight, and you end up leaving with the satisfied grin of a cat.
This exhibition is as much about the artist as it is about his art. The space is a perfect place for Shimodaira-san to express his hospitallity. He engages each patron as if it was his home. He is genuinely interested in each person and what they are all about. His works doesn't have any pretense about it and seems to have a natural flow. Striking color and shape burst on all senses yet there is a soothing quality much like a spring daydream. If you want to meet an amazing artist and person, find a new spot in Tokyo, and experience community in a historical "modern" building, don't miss this opportunity.
