"The Sense of Collapse" Exhibition

The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Koshiro Onchi, Sadamu Saito, Tetsuro Komai, Miyako Ishiuchi, Takashi Miyamoto et al.
Abandoned ruins, catastrophic scenes from wars and disasters, the decay of things over time, as well as the disintegration of personal identity -- a sense of collapse is frequently depicted in the art of the 20th century and today.

The artworks on display in this exhibition have been greatly influenced by disastrous events, which repeatedly occurred throughout the 20th century, also known as "the century of war." These images of ruin consistently remind us of our regretful past.

This exhibition features works by 20 artists that carry "a sense of collapse", each unraveling the close connection to the social background out of which they were created, and the various meanings behind the images in relation to the past, present, and future.
