This exhibition is timed to coincide with the December 15th release of the animated film "Snow Queen" that figured largely in director Hayao Miyazaki's career. This film was originally released in the former Soviet Union in 1957. Seven years later in 1964, 23-year old Miyazaki would come across this film at citizens' center in Nerima Ward. The director had just entered Toei Animation, but unhappy as an animator. His encounter with "Snow Queen" gave him the confidence and inspiration to continue as an animator. The exhibition will focus on the film itself as well as the historic backdrop of both the Soviet Union and Japan at the time of its initial release. Please visit the film website for details. http://www.ghibli-museum.jp/snowqueen/
